Repair & Replacement of Frozen & Burst Pipes in Edmonton

Pipe failure, whether caused by freezing conditions or misuse, age or accidental damage is one of the most common complaints plumbers are called to deal with. The professional plumbers at EZ Plumbing have years of experience with the repair and replacement of frozen and burst pipes in Edmonton and surrounding areas of Alberta. If you discover that one or more pipes in your mobile home, conventional home or business are leaking, burst or frozen, call EZ Plumbing right away.

Burst pipes can cause untold damage and require thousands of dollars to repair. Not so much because of the cost or difficulty of repair or replacement, but because of the vast volumes of water that flood interior rooms, weakening structural components and damaging furnishings and other items.

If a burst or leaking pipe is hidden away in the ceiling or behind a wall it might be some time before it becomes apparent. In the meantime water is pouring into your house, at a rate of up to 400 litres per hour. If you are away from home during this time, thousands of litres of water can be released into your living space and cause devastating damage.

Preventing Frozen and Burst Pipes

Pipe failure is often the result of freezing temperatures combined with unprotected piping. When water freezes it expands, which can cause the pipe to split and allow water to escape, usually at a joint or at a weak spot in the soft copper or plastic. Ensure that any taps and piping located on the exterior of your home are insulated, including drain pipes for heating or overflow pipes. Fitted covers are available to protect outside taps.

If your home will be unoccupied for an extended period of time it is a good idea to turn off the water at the stopcock, drain any water that remains in the system, and close the taps again. Leave your heat on at least 12 degrees centigrade so that it remains warm enough for water to flow through the system.

Even when preventive measures are taken pipes will sometimes burst or fail. If you notice damp patches on the walls, ceilings or floors, a loss of water pressure, or unusual noises in your water system, contact EZ Plumbing right away. We will locate the area of damage, identify the cause and provide a solution without delay.
